South African President Cyril Ramaphosa officially opened Africa’s second smartphone factory in Durban on 17 October 2019

The Mara phone factory employs 200 & will create 1 500 direct jobs in 6 years. The first African smartphone factory was opened in Rwanda in September.

USD$50 million was invested into the Durban smartphone factory that has the capacity to manufacture 10 000 Mara phones a day.

The Mara X will retail for around R2 999 in SA, while the Mara Z will come in at R3 999.
