With Lionel Messi reportedly making a shock admission about his future during a private call with Neymar, what he told the Brazilian has now been seemingly revealed.
The FC Barcelona superstar is believed to be desperate to add another UEFA Champions League trophy to his illustrious cabinet, and was shell-shocked after Liverpool knocked his side out of last year’s competition at the semi-final stage.
As a consequence, he called Neymar and pleaded with him to come back in order for the duo to bring another UCL title to the Camp Nou, according to France Football.
Messi’s desperate plea was reportedly accompanied by the revelation that he will leave the club in two years’ time, when he expects the Brazilian to take over his reins.
“Only together can we win the Champions League. I want you to come back,” he reportedly told Neymar.
“In two years, I’m leaving, and you’ll be alone, you’ll take my place.”
By the end of the 2020/21 campaign, Messi will be 34 years old, but should still be able to continue playing at a high level.
He has recently sent many signals suggesting that he wants to retire at the Blaugrana, but his message to Neymar could leave the Catalan club’s fans worried about their superstar’s future.
Earlier in the year, it was revealed that Messi’s current deal includes a clause that allows him to leave Barca for free if he notifies the club of his intent to do so before the end of May in a particular year.
