Suspected love-triangle murder
An elderly man from Siyoka area in Beitbridge West is alleged to have fatally stabbed his neighbour’s wife before trying to take his own life in a suspected love-triangle wrangle. The accused, Juta Mukoni,69, is currently admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital where he is under police guard.
According to reports reaching chaosafrica from state-media, Mukoni ran amok on Saturday evening and stormed into his neighbour’s bedroom and stabbed Salfina Ndou,52, in the stomach with a knife while her husband was asleep. After committing the crime, Mukoni fled the scene and tried to end his life by downing unknown poisonous substance. Surprisingly, the deceased’s husband was only woken up by the victim’s screams after the suspect had already left.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident. According to Chief Insp Ndebele, the suspect was spotted by the victim’s daughter who informed neighbours.
‘They found the suspect lying unconscious next to an unknown pesticide and he also had a cut on the neck. The matter was reported to the police who then took him to the hospital where he is being treated under guard,’ said Chief Insp Ndebele.
Although the motive behind the murder is not yet known, sources close to the case alleged that it was a result of a love triangle gone wrong.
‘We are not aware of the alleged love triangle story. Investigations are underway and what we know at this stage is that the accused and the now deceased were neighbours,’ said Chief Insp Ndebele.
‘According to information at hand, the suspect and the now deceased and her husband spent the day together. Later in the evening, the suspect went to the couple’s bedroom where he stabbed the woman in the stomach and she died’.
Salfina Ndou’s body was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital’s mortuary pending a postmortem.
