Termination of Employment: Dr Energy Mutodi. Deputy Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services. 20 May 2020

The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr M.J.M. Sibanda, has announced the termination of employment by His His Excellency the President, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa, of Dr Energy Mutodi as Deputy Minister of Government in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

The termination which is with immediate effect is in terms of Section 108 (la) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No. 20) of 2013

While no reason was immediately given for the sacking of Mutodi, it comes as no surprise to many Zimbabweans, who felt the sands in the minister’s hourglass were running out.

Mutodi’s uncensored freedom of speech and sometimes careless statements on public forums, have often seen him in the cross hairs of both the upper echelons of power and the general population.

His latest comments on the 3 female MDC activists who were allegedly abducted and se_xually assaulted, were not only viewed as insensitive but were seen as slu_t shaming together with victim shaming.

Said Mutodi in a tweet

Details emerge MDC youths Joana Mamombe, Netsai Marova & Cecilia Chimbiri went out for a romantic night to Bindura with their lovers who are artisanal miners. They parked their car at a police station for safety but tragedy struck when they demanded foreign currency for services.

Mutodi recently rubbed off the top brass in the wrong way, following another reckless tweet which might have sparked a diplomatic incident.

He seemingly mocked Tanzanian President John Magufuli, for mishandling the Covid-19 situation in his country by asking people to just pray the virus away.

This did not got down well with the government, who immediately distanced themselves from Mutodi’s statement.

Afterwards Mutodi claimed that he was fearing for his life, as International Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo and former presidential adviser Chris Mutsvangwa were allegedly gunning for him after he criticized them>chaosafrica
