The ruling ZANU PF is reportedly divided over ousted Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi.
NewsDay was told that some Zanu PF provincial executive members were planning to expel Mutodi from the party while others were against causing a byelection anytime soon. Speaking to the publication, an anonymous provincial party official said:
After the issuing of the prohibition order, some party members want Mutodi to be expelled after the disciplinary hearing.
However, given the political atmosphere in Goromonzi West, some are against the move, saying there was need to avoid a byelection judging by the 2018 elections outcome.
This, therefore, means the party will only remove him from the provincial executive post. Zanu PF cannot afford to lose a seat, especially with things that can be avoided.
Mutodi who is reportedly in the party’s faction led by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was relieved of his duties by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for disrespecting some government officials among them ministers of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Sibusiso Moyo and Senator Monica Mutsvangwa respectively.
Party insiders allege that Mutodi behaved ‘recklessly’ because he has backing from Chiwenga>chaosafrica
