High Court temporarily bars Khupe from replacing MDC-A MPs

THE High Court on Monday morning granted an interim order barring MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe from replacing recalled MDC Alliance legislators.

Khupe last month recalled three MDC Alliance MPs and a Senator from Parliament arguing that they no longer represented the interests of the party left by Morgan Tsvangirai.

The recalled four are Chalton Hwende (Kuwadzana East), Prosper Mutseyami (Dangamvura Chikanga), Thabitha Khumalo (proportional representation) and Senator Lillian Timveos of Masvingo Province.

The latest developments mean Khupe cannot replace the legislators before the determination of their main application before the same court, where the quartet is seeking to have its recall invalidated.

The recall from Parliament followed the Supreme Court judgment of 31st March which ruled that Nelson Chamisa was not the legitimate MDC leader. The same judgement restored the party’s 2014 structures, giving interim presidency to Khupe>chaosafrica
