Blackman Matambanadzo Dies

Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament, Mr. Masango Matambanadzo popularly Blackman has passed away, aged 56.

Matambanadzo had been battling ill health since the beginning of the year following suspected food poisoning. He died at his Amaveni home in the early hours of Tuesday.

When contacted by The Herald, family spokesperson, Ms Angela Nyathi confirmed Matambanadzo’ s demise.

“He passed on early this morning,” said Ms Nyathi before emotions got the better of her and broke down.

Blackman who was a popular figure with the the electorate in Kwekwe, was the only Member of Parliament to win the 2018 harmonized elections on the National People’s Patriotic Front ticket after he for the second elections running, trounced an equally popular MDC Alliance candidate, Mr Blessing Chebundo.

He made headlines soon after winning the 2018 elections by moving around the streets of Kwekwe while being carried on shoulders by his bouncers amid wild celebrations.

Matambanadzo was flown to China last year for treatment after his skin turned yellow when he fell ill following suspected food poisoning.

A former Zanu PF member, Matambanadzo was expelled from the ruling party Zanu PF in 2017 on charges of belonging to the G40 faction.

In 2018, Matambanadzo was disqualified from participating in the Zanu-PF primary elections.

The vocal legislator was the only notable casualty when the provincial executive rejected his CV to contest in the primaries.

Matambanadzo was known as Blackman partly due to his dark complexion.

He confessed that he was a Grade Two school dropout.

Matambanadzo was first elected member of Parliament in 2013.

He says that he once campaigned for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa in Midlands Province>chaosafrica
