In a dramatic turn of events, there was chaos at a funeral when one of the mourners identified his blanket which had been stolen by the now deceased and demanded to have it back immediately.

The eagle-eyed mourner was in no mood to negotiate after he spotted his pilfered blanket covering the coffin of the known armed robber.

It is not yet clear, how the mourner positively identified his blanket, but after doing so, he demanded his property right there and was not entertaining any pleas from the relatives of the deceased.

However, he wasn’t given the blanket as the police detectives took it as evidence of the crimes allegedly committed by the gang, the deceased allegedly belonged to.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident, telling the Manica Post.

“The recovered blanket will be used as evidence to clear the outstanding cases allegedly committed by the deceased and his accomplices,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

The late Amos Nyaira of Gosho Village, together with two accomplices, are well-known robbers who stand accused of committing more than 50 armed robbery and rape cases in Mutare, Mutasa, and Rusape. Apparently, Nyaira and his accomplices were already on the most wanted list.

“Nyaira and Arnold Buwu were on the wanted person list for a series of armed robbery and rape cases they had committed since last year with another accomplice, Trust Matiashe, who is in remand prison,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

However, Nyaira was shot dead by police detectives after his car was intercepted by the police on his way to commit another robbery.

Cornered with nowhere to go, a fearless Nyaira is said to have charged towards the police detectives with a machete whilst resisting arrest in Mutare.

Fearing for their dear lives the polices allegedly fired three warning shots, unshaken by the shots, Nyaira still kept on charging towards them which resulted in them firing another shot that hit his left ear, resulting in his death.

In one of their many terror attacks, it is alleged that on May 8 armed with a rifle, hammer and an iron bar, the gang robbed a house in Vumba and gang-raped a 23-year-old maid.

A detective who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the identification of the blanket plus the arrest of the two suspects will assist the police in solving several cold cases committed by the suspects which hadn’t been solved in a long time.

The police have welcomed the arrest of the gang who had apparently

“This gang committed many crimes over the past year and the cases were giving us headaches.”

“They were hitting almost on a daily basis,” he said>chaosafrica
