Popular television and radio personality Tinopona Katsande, affectionately known as Tin Tin, sometimes finds herself in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. However, this time the bubbly former Studio 263 actress is making waves for all the right reasons, after coming to the rescue of a young mother in a potentially life or death situation.

A couple of nights ago Tin Tin helped a desperate teen mother who was on the cusp of giving birth to find medical attention. The young mother who is only 17 years of age and her husband who is aged 19 found themselves stranded when the wife into labour in the middle of the night. Finding themselves stuck and with no viable options, the hapless couple went to the nearest house and banged the door, praying that they would get some assistance.

The house belonged to Tinopona. Narrating the dramatic events of the night, Tin Tin posted on her Instagram page saying,

A couple of nights ago the young couple that lives in the makeshift cabin in a veld near my home came banging at my gate at 11:45pm. The wife (17) husband (19) were in labour & of all doors they came to mine,” she said.

In light of the crisis that had befallen her, knowing fully well how the health system is fast deteriorating at an alarming rate, going to a hospital or clinic was not an option. She opted to take them to a traditional midwife.

With the current desperate situation & collapse of our health system presently in Zim (most major gvt hospitals/clinics that offer free/subsidized medical care are closed with babies dying at birth)

“This couple like thousands of other pregnant women in Zim were stuck & desperate. Many ordinary citizens are being forced to give birth at-home and just pray for the best. I panicked. I prayed. A bright light came on.

“A lady currently in one of the #speakout_handinyarare safe houses for abused women that I run once mentioned in passing she knew someone who could deliver babies.”

Even though she did not have a car or any money, Tin Tin called a cab and asked for a favour from a taxi driver she is on good terms with. The actress narrated that during the nerve-racking ride, she recounted the ordeal that followed when her friend Becky died, and she was accused of ferrying her body using a taxi. She went on to say that for the entirety of the journey, she was fervently praying that all goes well

“With no car myself & certainly no money I called the taxi & off we sped to the safe house.Oh boy I’ve never been so afraid. With taxi driver repeating ‘haa manje vakafa uchangodzi wauraya mhunu futi na @TildaMoyo veku @starfm ne @hmetro…’

“I kept my cool praying for divine intervention BUT YOU KNOW I WAS IMPOADING (sic) right after all the #fakenews that went round surrounding my friend Becky’s death.

“Lo & behold the lady at the safe house IS actually the traditional ‘midwife’. She opened the back door & said ‘musoro wakutobuda’ & she went straight into action.

“Baby Beauty was born. All went well THANK GOD.”

Tin Tin says that drama always seems to be always knocking at her door. The vivacious media personality also said that she is now a proud Gogo and went to check in on Beauty and her mother. She went on to say,

Today I went to check in on my “muzukru”& leave a couple of hand me downs.Thank goodness vakanyoresa so birth record shouldn’t be a problem but asikana Ka mmm… It was ma1 (asi Mwari why me chokwadi.apa drama COMES to me ndirimumba mangu zvangu ???) but it is well. “Itai mpoanesi izvo munoda…” P.s Call me Gogo TinTin ?.
