What we need to know about CYCLONE Chalane.
CYCLONE Chalane is like a giant engine using warm moist air and strong winds as fuel. At its fomation over the Indian Ocean its wind strength is pegged at 265km/hr. Very destructive.
But on landfall on the Mozambique shores on 30 December 2020 it will be at a staggering 206km/h.
It will smash the eastern Zimbabwean side on the 31st of December 2020 with projected wind strength of between 150km/hr to 160km/hr.
A cyclone is very dangerous. It brings heavy rainfall and high winds which can last for many days leading to landslides, flooding, infrastructure destruction, injuries, loss of lives and livelihoods.
The most important action is EARLY WARNING & EARLY RESPONSE to the communities which are likely to be hit and hurt by Cyclone Chalane. We dont need a repeat of the CYCLONE Idai experience of 15 March 2019 where hundreds of PEOPLE were killed, some reported missing and injured.
Areas likely to be hit hardest by Cyclone Chalane are Chimanimani, Chipinge, the southern eastern parts of the country, Bikita , Rusape and mostly other areas in Manicaland but it can go inland causing major damages as such lets all be prepared for it. Chalane is not confined or caged in the mentioned areas.
