Chitungwiza’s St Mary Clinic closed. At least one Chitungwiza City Health Department front line worker has died whilst seven others have tested positive to Covid-19 forcing the closure of St Mary’s Clinic in the dormitory town.
Results recorded over the past week have also left 21 workers in self-isolation. In a statement, the acting town clerk, Dr Tonderai Kasu said due to a staff shortage they will be forced to close the clinic.
“The current circumstances have worsened these shortages and with immediate effect, Chitungwiza Municipality will be temporarily closing one of its municipal clinics, that is St Mary’s Clinic.
“The clinic shall remain open for emergency cases only; all non-emergency cases shall be attended to at Zengeza clinic for the time being.
“It is the shortage of staff that has prompted the temporary closure of one of our clinics, but we shall continue offering the full range of health services at our other municipal clinics,” said DR Kasu.
Dr Kasu also appealed for support from members of the Chitungwiza community. “We would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to all our stakeholders and our community for their support and understanding during this very challenging time,” he said.
The 21 health care workers in self-isolation were direct contacts of the seven who tested positive over the last seven days.
