Zarifa Ghafari, the first female mayor of Afghanistan, has said she is awaiting her fate in the hands of the Taliban government.
On Sunday, Taliban fighters invaded Kabul, the country’s capital, and have since taking over all government buildings.
The Islamists have also began the clampdown on women, by defacing billboards and salons bearing faces of the feminine gender since taking over the country.
Thousands of Afghans have also been making desperate attempts to flee the country.
Ghafari, 27, who spoke about three weeks ago, had said there was hope for Afghanistan.
But she has now expressed fear for her life and family over the current development.
“I’m sitting here waiting for them to come. There is no one to help me or my family. I’m just sitting with them and my husband. And they will come for people like me and kill me. I can’t leave my family. And anyway, where would I go?” she said from her hope in Kabul according to i newspaper.
