“Say Goodbye To Coffins”These Organic Burial Pods Will Turn Your Body In To A Tree After You Die

CNN describes an organic burial pod as a biodegradable burial pod that a deceased corpse is placed in; the pod then works with nature to transform the rotting body into a tree.

Consider the possibility that you were not buried in a coffin six feet below the surface of the ground when you died. Instead, you chose a natural burial, and your corpse is now being used to enrich the earth in the area surrounding you. Likewise, a young tree is planted in the exact same location, where it soon begins to bloom and develop.

A future like this isn’t too far off in the distance. In 2011, two Italian designers created a project called Capsula Mundi, which translates as “burial pods,” with the goal of altering the way people think about, engage with, and experience death.

The way it works is as follows: The biodegradable plastic shell is buried with a body or ashes inside of it, which will eventually decompose. As soon as it is buried, it begins to decompose; the remains within provide nutrients to the surrounding soil, and a sapling placed above the body begins to take root.

Capsula Mundi is a culturally inclusive and broadly based initiative that proposes a different approach to the way we think about mortality than what we have been used to. An egg-shaped pod, an old and ideal form, constructed of biodegradable material, in which our deceased loved ones are laid to rest before being buried A tiny egg-shaped biodegradable urn will be used to hold the ashes, while bigger pods will be used to lay the corpses down in a foetal posture.

The Capsula will next be buried in the ground as if it were a seed. An appropriate tree, chosen by the dead during his or her lifetime, will be planted on top of the monument, which will serve as a memorial for the departed as well as a legacy for posterity and the future of our planet. The tree will continue to be cared for by family and friends as it develops. Cemeteries will take on a new appearance, and instead of the cold, dreary environment that we see now, they will be transformed into colourful forests in the future.

This does not imply, however, that it will be simple to change our attitudes about the deceased.
