Former Energy and Power Development Minister, Advocate Fortune Chasi has reported that several people died at Sasai Mine in Mazowe South Ward after an oxygen tank exploded.
Chasi said the deceased include one child and five Chinese workers. He announced in a Twitter post:
Very sad development at Saisai mine Mazowe South Ward 20. Oxygen tanks burst killing several people who include 1 child, 5 Chinese workers.
Just for the record, this has not been reported by anyone as yet. This is information coming from the constituency. I have brought it to the attention of the relevant minister.
Some said Chinese miners are known for “cutting corners on safety and security,” therefore, chances are high that the accident was caused by negligence.
Some Chinese-owned companies previously denied allegations that they were flouting safety regulations.
