Zvishavane Town Council is currently running a brothel in a bid to Suppliment revenue after claiming that 80% of the residents were not paying rates.
On Wednesday, the Minister of State for Midlands Larry Mavima had a business tour in Zvishavane and he got the shock of his life when he bumped into a brothel that is being run by the council.
According to Masvingo Mirror, Mavima quizzed council officials who revealed that the brothel was a way of raising funds.
The publication also reports that Mavima toured the town house as well and when he came to the council guest house, he was shown one end which was being used by residents who lost their houses during heavy storms in 2020.
However, he got another shock of his life and he could not hide his anger when he went to the other side and noticed that council accommodated sex workers who pay US$30 a day to the local authority’s security department.
It is further alleged that the sex workers brought in men for service throughout the day and night.
As quoted by the publication, Mavima said:
“This visit is depressing, Zvishavane has the worst management for any local authority. It is not only embarrassing but shameful and unacceptable that a local authority can resort to brothels as a way of fundraising. That brothel should be closed immediately “, he said.
The three Private Mbonisi Moyo, 23, Lance Corporal Givemore Munyaradzi Jonga, 29, and Kennedy Chipangura, 32, appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Nzuda on Wednesday who advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.
The trio was remanded in custody and the matter was rolled over to February 16.
