A teenager who recently consulted a sangoma for some money-making charms sighed with relief after the traditional healer reluctantly took back a “ritual coffin” she had given him.

The teenager, who was desperate to get rich quickly, stole US$100 and used the money to seek local traditional healer Gogo Mamoyo’s services. Gogo Mamoyo charged him US$400 for the services and instructed him to bring the balance once he had it.

After listening to his desires, Gogo Mamoyo gave the teenager a small coffin and expressly forbade him not to open it for the next 3 years. The adventurous teen was also instructed to ignore any sounds which would come from the coffin.

The traditional healer also instructed him to use the mini coffin to conduct rituals at 3 am daily while in the nude.

According to Gogo Mamoyo, if the teen diligently followed these and other instructions, he would start receiving money within a week.

Surprisingly, the teen was not deterred by these onerous instructions and took the coffin home with him. However, his dreams of becoming wealthy overnight hit a brick wall when his older sister spotted the ritual coffin.

After interrogating him about its purpose, she frog-marched her wayward brother to Gogo Mamoyo so that he could return the occultic coffin.

The sangoma readily admitted to giving the teen some get-rich-quick goblins. She, however, claimed that the teen had lied about his age. Gogo Mamoyo insisted that she would not have given him the money-making charms had she known his true age.

She told local tabloid H-Metro,

“I know this man. He came seeking get-rich-quick goblins, and I enquired about his marital status and age.

“I gave him the goblin, in the form of a coffin, and I instructed him not to open the coffin for the next three years.

“The goblin would bring him the money he wanted, within a week, if he was to follow instructions.”

She then outlined the instructions she had issued to him,

“Among the instructions, he had to undress every day at 3 am, achiteketera midzimu yake, akatarisana necoffin iroro.

“He must not have sexual intercourse with anyone within three days, he must not greet people with his hands and other dangerous instructions would follow since he wanted to get rich quick.”

Gogo Mamoyo also added that she would not have taken back her get-rich-quick goblin if the teenager had not lied about his age.

“I was not going to accept the returning of the coffin, if he was over 20 years.

“I feel sorry for this young man and when he came I didn’t know that he is young considering that he is so tall.

“Ndichamupa porridge raanodya nekunze kweruwoko kuti mishonga yaakashandisa musi waakateketera asina kupfeka ipere simba.

“I was told that the boy stole the money he paid for consultation, but I will not refund him since he was yet to bring a balance of US$300.”

The teenager claimed that he consulted Gogo Mamoyo because he wanted to get rich so that he could look after his parents in Masvingo after recently losing his job.

He also added that he consulted Gogo Mamoyo following advice from one of his friends.
