“We Only Exchanged Words” Marry Mubaiwa’s Trial On Assault Charges Kicks Off

The trial of VP Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa on allegations of attacking her former housemaid Delight Munyoro has commenced at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

Mubaiwa is facing assault charges.

Mubaiwa denied the allegations through her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa. She told the court that her hands were weak at the time of the alleged attack after she was injured during the Bulawayo White City Stadium blast incident.

She added that she only exchanged words with Munyoro on the day in question, The Herald reports.

The State had alleged that Mubaiwa assaulted Delight Munyoro whom she claimed was influencing her children to dislike her.

The assault charges against Mubaiwa arose in January 2020 when she allegedly assaulted Munyoro at Hellenic School in Borrowdale, Harare.

It is alleged that there was an altercation between Mubaiwa and the maid over the custody of her and Chiwenga’s children.

Munyoro is reported to have gone to the school to pick up the children but clashed with Marry who also wanted to have access to the minors.

The State further alleges that Mubaiwa called Munyoro a witch and accused her of influencing her children to dislike their own mother.

Recently, it was reported that the South African authorities have seized properties belonging to the embattled ex-wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
The SA authorities seized Marry Mubaiwa’s R14 million upmarket property in Pretoria and two Range Rovers.

The properties were seized following a ruling made by Pretoria High Court judge Aubrey Ledwaba on February 9, 2022. This was after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) wrote to the South African authorities alleging that the properties may have been illegally acquired.

Marry Mubaiwa is also facing charges of money laundering and externalizing foreign currency. She has been charged with five counts of fraud and contravening Section 8 (2) of Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act for “concealing, disguising the true nature, source, location, disposition, movement or ownership; of or rights with respect to property, knowing or suspecting that such property are proceeds of crime
