SA Cops Killed In Ambush While Attending Crime Scene

Two South African Police Service (SAPS) officers lost their lives while attending to a complaint in North Gauteng, on Thursday, October 13. The attackers took their service weapons.

While waiting for a mortuary van after responding to a call about an unnatural death in the area, a Sergeant and Constable from the Boksburg North Police Station were attacked by three men.

According to Colonel Athlenda Mathe, the Sergeant and Constable were fatally wounded after being disarmed.

The deceased’s service pistols and bulletproof vests were taken by the suspects, who escaped the scene on foot, she continued.

While the Constable was in his third year with SAPS, the Sergeant had 18 years of experience. The State’s weapons and bulletproof vests are being sought after in an effort to apprehend their killers.

General Fannie Masemola, the national police commissioner, denounced the Boksburg murder and urged all South Africans to cooperate closely with the authorities to put an end to attacks on police officers.

Masemola claimed that the killing of policemen for their service weapons weakened the legitimacy of the government and the criminal justice system.

“We believe that such incidents can be prevented. We will not rest until we find those behind the attack and killing of police officers. My deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the two members,” said the General.-The South African
