Baby Sagini was found dumped at his family’s banana plantation on Thursday with his face covered with blood after being kidnapped on Wednesday evening.

The main suspect in the case where 3-year-old Junior Sagini had his eyes mercilessly gouged out by unidentified assailants in Kisii County, has been arrested.
Alex Maina Ochoki, 26, was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday evening and was held at Marani police station.

Ochoki is set to appear before the Kisii law courts today, Monday, December 19, as DCI officers plan to seek custodial orders to pave way for further investigations.

Meanwhile, baby Sagini’s mother Maureen Nyaboke, 28, has also been apprehended and is set to face charges of child negligence.

Three other suspects connected to the incident – a form 3 student from a local school, a middle-aged man and a woman- went through a 10-hour interrogation before being released on Sunday evening.

Baby Sagini was found dumped at his family’s banana plantation on Thursday with his face covered with blood after being kidnapped on Wednesday evening.

The minor was rushed to the Kisii Eye Hospital where he is recuperating in the general ward after a surgical procedure.

Doctors frantically operated on Sagini hoping to restore his eyesight but all in vain. Doctors say the incident has left the toddler blind.

They say he’s ready to be discharged but they can’t just release him yet owing to the fragile & toxic environment still embroiled in the ongoing investigations.

At Ikuruma village, shocked residents who are yet to come to terms with the nature of cannibalism inflicted on their very own say they fear for the lives of their children, locking them up as the Christmas festivities approach.

The Police will continue with investigations as they interrogate more witnesses and retrace Sagini’s final steps before his kidnap on the fateful evening.

Investigators have also processed Sagini’s home in Ikuruma village, for potential additional traces of exhibits, collecting a metallic rod for examination.
