Bayern Munich are weighing up whether to fine, suspend or sack Sadio Mane after his dressing room bust-up with Leroy Sane on Tuesday, according to reports in Germany.
The winger punched his team-mate in the face after his side’s bitter 3-0 defeat by Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Etihad.
Even though the Senegalese forward was pictured back in Bayern training this morning, his contract at the Allianz Arena could still be terminated by the Bundesliga giants, who are in the process of discussing an appropriate sanction.
Sane and Mane were seen confronting each other as they trudged off the pitch at the Etihad Stadium and the row boiled over when they went down the tunnel.
As the clash continued into the dressing room, Mane punched the German and left him with a bloodied lip, before the pair were dragged away from each other.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern Munich’s verdict is likely to go ‘beyond a fine’, meaning the former Liverpool star risks either a temporary suspension or permanent sacking.
Sane obscured his bloodied lip when he touched down in Munich on Thursday morning, keen to hide any evidence of the altercation to the cameras.
Bayern’s stars are reportedly shocked by the incident and critical of the Senegalese international for punching Sane, who was one of Munich’s better players on the night.
It is understood the German champions are keen to make an example out of Mane in what has been a turbulent season within the Bayern camp.
As a result, the players do not expect Mane to stay at the club for long.
The fractured dressing room was divided ahead of Julian Nagelsmann’s sudden sacking last month and has continued early into Thomas Tuchel’s reign.
It seemed the German boss had quelled the internal conflict during his debut 4-2 triumph over title rivals Borussia Dortmund, but a DFB-Pokal exit to Freiburg and a 3-0 hammering at the hands of City has since fanned the flames.
