Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s recently concluded elections, has stepped into the public rift between the Okoye brothers, known collectively as P-Square.
Paul Okoye, famously known as Rudeboy, and his elder brother Jude Okoye met with Obi to discuss their ongoing family issues, particularly following a series of public disagreements that have garnered media attention.
The Okoye brothers have faced a tumultuous relationship marked by disputes over musical contributions and personal grievances.
This tension escalated after Paul publicly claimed, during an interview with City FM in Lagos, that he was the primary songwriter and talent behind P-Square, asserting that he penned and performed 99% of the duo’s catalog.
This assertion did not sit well with his twin brother Peter, known as Mr P, who expressed feelings of hurt and being discredited, stating that Paul’s comments undermined his contributions to their shared legacy.
In an emotional open letter, Mr P conveyed his disappointment, mentioning that both he and Paul had let their fans down amid personal conflicts.
He expressed concerns over his brother’s statements in interviews that seemingly minimized his involvement and artistry within the group.
He emphasized that Paul’s claims were disrespectful not only to him but also to his wife and family, suggesting that their continued public disputes were damaging their legacy as one of Nigeria’s most beloved musical acts.
Paul Okoye shared his appreciation for Obi’s intervention through a heartfelt message on social media, thanking him for his support amid their ongoing struggles.
