In a bizarre and shocking incident, a Zambian woman from Chipata, Eastern Province, has allegedly returned from the dead five years after she was buried.

The now 21-year-old, Felopa Mbewe, who was thought to have died in 2019 at the age of 16, has left her community and police utterly baffled.

Felopa who comes from Chiwete village under Chief Chinunda in Chipangali, was reported to have died after she had consumed a poisonous tablet following a dispute with her mother.

Without a proper mortuary in the area to preserve the body, her family buried her the day after her death.

Howevy the burial itself was marked by eerie events. Eastern Province police commanding officer, Robertson Mweemba, revealed that a strange, strong whirlwind swept through the funeral, scattering mourners in all directions. Once the wind subsided, they were able to proceed with the burial.

After the funeral, Felopa’s family noticed something strange—food kept disappearing from their home.

Shocked and worried, the family sought spiritual help and turned to Pastor Rueben Kalima. The pastor performed prayers and fasting, eventually revealing that their daughter was still alive, though his words remained unconfirmed for years.

Last month, however, Felopa’s father, Mona Mbewe, 62, was shocked when his cousin claimed to have seen her near the Zambia-Malawi border. Determined to find out if this was truly his daughter, Mbewe organized a trip with his son to track down the mysterious woman. To their amazement, they confirmed it was Felopa, although she was unable to speak.

Felopa was taken back to her village, and the family’s incredible story soon caught the attention of the police. Commander Mweemba stated that his officers interviewed both parents, and their stories matched perfectly.

“Now as police, when we got wind of it we became worried. So on Tuesday, I organised my officers and went to the police post where the girl was kept and we found her alive. We interviewed the father and the mother and the story was the same,”

Mweemba said.

Authorities have now referred the case to a state pathologist to investigate further. Mweemba explained that the pathologist would examine the burial site and attempt to verify if Felopa is indeed the girl who was buried five years ago.

“We have already contacted the council, and when this state pathologist comes, we will take him to the village where this daughter was buried so that he can play his part and tell us his findings. The county will be informed if that is really the girl who was buried and resurrected. That is the final answer to our problem,”

Mweemba said.
