Police Mistake Sadza Packs For Drugs
The police were called to a two vehicle crash involving a Ford Fiesta and a Kia C’eed on the southbound carriageway of the A419 close to the Castle Eaton turn-off.
The man was also charged with illegal drug possession as the police believed that the packed sadza he had was actually amphetamine.
Tinashe Ndongwe (26) appeared before Swindon Crown Court and pleaded guilty to being behind the wheel of the Ford Fiesta on February 3.
The traffic police believed that they had recovered large amounts of what they believed to be amphetamine in his car.
However, prosecutor Tessa Hingston later dropped the drug charges of possession with intent to supply class B drugs.
She said the contents of the parcels had been tested and found to contain sadza, a maize meal staple in Zimbabwe and other parts of southern Africa.
Judge Peter Crabtree bailed Ndongwe to appear before the crown court on Wednesday, April 22 to be sentenced for the reckless driving charge.
Meanwhile in Zimbabw, a man allegedly fatally stabbed his live-in girlfriend of eight years with a kitchen knife after she broke up with him citing abuse.
