In a troubling case brought before the Harare court, an 82-year-old woman has accused her grandson of repeated attempts at sexual assault while under the influence of alcohol.
Gogo Mandizvidza testified about her grandson, Brian Ruwinza, claiming his behavior has caused her ongoing distress and fear.
Mandizvidza described instances where Ruwinza, when intoxicated, would demand sexual relations and react violently when rebuffed.
““Whenever he is drunk, he demands to have sex with me. I feel unsafe in my own home,” she told the court, emphasizing the emotional toll his actions have taken on her.
The elderly woman also reported that Ruwinza has been evicting her tenants, leading to financial difficulties that affect her ability to pay for essential medications.
“His actions have left me without income at critical times,” she explained.
Ruwinza admitted to his problematic behavior, citing alcohol and substance abuse as contributing factors.
“I often don’t remember these incidents after drinking, and I regret my actions,” he stated, asking the court for leniency.
In light of the testimony, Magistrate Judith Taruvinga issued a protection order, preventing Ruwinza from contacting or harassing his grandmother.
