A CON artist has been working in tandem with his pregnant wife to dupe people various amounts of money by masquerading as a homeless and penniless couple who lost everything in an attack by thieves.
Clifford Simbarashe Matapula and his expecting wife Laura Grace Munyai are the two con artists.
One of their victims is content creator Stephen Gushu of Saint TV, who lost US$2200.
Narrating his ordeal, Stephen told H-Metro that Clifford was in tears when he pleaded with him to provide a helping hand.
He said his ‘plight’ touched his heart and he accommodated the couple at his home from November 4.
“The couple won my trust by their diabolical tongue and I accomodated them since I stay alone,” said Stephen.
“I bought clothes for them, gave Clifford some of my old clothes and bought food.”I gave him US$400 to give to my landlord and he pocketed it and claimed to have misplaced it.
“I gave them my trust, I recorded some videos of me and them unaware that I was entertaining the devil.”
Stephen said he was surprised to receive calls from some of the couple’s other victims.Clifford would post his photograph holding his loot after duping the Good Samaritans.
It could not be established yesterday if reports that the couple was arrested in Bulawayo were true.
