Gutu Man Fathers Two Children with His Own Daughter After Years of Abuse
A disturbing case has emerged from Chiguhune Village in Gutu, where a 50-year-old man stands accused of abusing his daughter for years and allegedly fathering her two children.
The situation was brought to the attention of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) and the police late last year. However, local villagers are expressing frustration over the slow pace of the investigation.
Community Outrage Over Delayed Action
Virginia Muwanigwa, CEO of the ZGC, stated that she could only comment once she received updates from the investigating officer.
Meanwhile, attempts to reach Masvingo police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, were unsuccessful.
The abuse survivor, now 25, has been relocated to a relative’s home with her two children. Her two younger sisters, who are key witnesses in the case, were also moved for their safety, as their father is described as violent.
The case, which reportedly took place in Chawira Village, has sparked outrage among villagers. Many are concerned that the delays in investigations are disrupting the lives of the survivors, particularly the two younger sisters, both in Form Four, who have not returned to school since the term began.
Calls for Proper Intervention
Ekenia Chifamba, director of Shamwari Yemwanasikana, criticized the decision to place the abused girl and her sisters with relatives. She emphasized that the Department of Social Welfare should intervene to ensure the children are placed in safe environments.
“I am rather put aback by the fact that these children have been given to relatives to take care of them. The Department of Social Welfare should have taken over such a case because they are qualified to deal with such matters. The abused girl and even her little sisters may end up with health issues,” she said.

In an interview, the accused father denied the allegations. Village head Patrick Madziva confirmed that the girl had been abused since she was 16 years old and now has two children, aged eight and four.
“Yes, the girl was abused since she was 16 years old. Her little sisters are in hiding because of fear of the father who is known for being violent,” said Madziva.
The situation has become a hot topic in the community, and residents feel that previous reports made to the local police have yielded little action. The accused’s elder brother also confirmed the allegations, stating that the family decided to remove the abused girl from the home due to ongoing reports of the abuse. The accused’s wife revealed that she had caught her husband with their daughter on several occasions.
