A Magistrate Court in Harare, today has ordered Primrose Sithole to pay $100 to her boyfriend, Taurai Chidokwani.
She collected $2.00 as transport fare but
failed to visit him as promised.
The incident began when Taurai Chidokwani transferred the transport fare to Primrose, who subsequently switched off her phone and failed to show up.
Feeling defrauded and emotionally distressed, Chidokwani reported the matter to Budiriro 2 Police Station.
Primrose was later arrested and brought to court.
During the trial, Chidokwani presented evidence, including the
mobile money transfer and WhatsApp messages exchanged between him and Primrose.
In her ruling, Magistrate Cynthia Marare ordered Primrose to refund the $2 pay an additional $70 for breach of agreement, and another $33 as special damages for emotional distress.
The court emphasized that the ruling was
intended to deter others from similar behaviour.
