ZRP officials have initiated a comprehensive investigation into several schools after shocking claims of sodomy at prominent boys’ schools in Zimbabwe’s capital. The allegations, some dating back several years, have rocked the nation’s education community.
Authorities confirmed receiving multiple reports involving three institutions: Allan Wilson High School, Prince Edward High School, and Blakiston Junior School. The cases reportedly include incidents between students and serious accusations against faculty members.

Senior Educators Implicated in Abuse Cases

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi disclosed that while most complaints involve student-on-student offences, one particularly troubling case targets a school administrator. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police can confirm we’re actively investigating these serious allegations,” Nyathi stated in response to media inquiries.

At Allan Wilson High School, headmaster Tafara Zhou faces investigation for alleged aggravated indecent assault. The accuser, a former student, claims the abuse persisted throughout his academic career until his graduation last year.

Nationwide Pattern of Abuse Emerges

The Harare cases form part of a disturbing national pattern, with similar investigations underway at Masase High School in Mberengwa. Deputy head Anymore Gumbo stands accused of sexually violating approximately 30 students at the rural institution.

When concerns were raised after one student exposed him, Gumbo is said to have fled with his family. The school’s headmaster is said to have a tight policy where students only speak to him when they have something to report. Many students were being sodomised in silence for fear of speaking out.

Education officials remain tight-lipped as police work to determine the full scope of these allegations. The investigations come amid growing calls for stronger child protection measures in Zimbabwe’s school system.

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward as they work to ensure justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators
