A night meant for love ended in horror after a young woman was raped, assaulted, and robbed in Glenview, Harare, on Friday night. The 21-year-old woman was on her way to visit her boyfriend, a well-known DJ, when she was attacked at knifepoint by three unknown men.

Mistaken Identity Leads to Tragedy

According to police, she had hired a taxi from Mbare and got off at the corner of Willowvale and Highglen Road around 11 PM, hoping to walk the rest of the way to Mashwede Village. But things took a dark turn when she mistook three strangers near a bus stop for familiar faces.

Instead of finding her boyfriend, she was surrounded by danger. One of the men quietly demanded that she hand over her phone and handbag and warned her not to make a sound. Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the Harare provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the disturbing incident.

“Police are investigating a rape and robbery case,” said Insp Chakanza.

Inspector Chakanza explained how the attack unfolded. The suspects didn’t just rob the woman—they threatened her with a knife and forced her to walk with them to a secluded area. When they reached a quiet spot near Glen View 8, the nightmare worsened.

One of the men sexually assaulted her while the others stood by. After the brutal act, they went through her bag and stole valuables worth US$150, including her Samsung F13 cellphone.

“Complainant was reported to have walked towards the accused persons, and they advanced to meet her along High Glen Road. One of the accused whispered to the complainant that she should surrender her Samsung F13 cellphone, a handbag and that she should not make any noise. The other accused produced a small knife and threatened to stab the complainant if she failed to comply. Complainant complied. The accused ordered the complainant to follow them as they walked away towards a school in Glen View 7 Extension until they crossed into Glen View 8 through a foot bridge. When they reached a secluded place in Glen View 8, one of the accused persons demanded to have sexual intercourse with the complainant. He raped her and further sexually abused her. After the act, the accused searched the complainant’s handbag and stole her money,” said Insp Chakanza
