A pregnant woman, Patricia Nyoni, 35, reportedly passed away on Sunday after an ambulance taking her to Bulawayo from Nkayi crashed on a treacherous stretch of road near Inyathi.
The ambulance was transporting her from Nkayi to Bulawayo for emergency surgery due to complications during childbirth.
Unfortunately, the vehicle’s wheel came off, causing it to overturn.
According to Jacob Ngarivhume, Patricia Nyoni was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo for emergency surgery due to complications during childbirth, as Nkayi District Hospital lacked the necessary equipment.
The sole operational ambulance in the district was dispatched to transport her, but sadly, it overturned after a wheel came off on a poor road, leaving Nkayi without an ambulance as the other one has been out of service for months.
The driver was unh@rmed, but a nurse sustained injur!es and received treatment at Inyathi hospital.
