Eric Moyo has died
SA based Zimbabwean gospel music artist Eric Moyo collapsed and died. Friend and fellow gospel minister Cliff M confirmed the news on his social media.
Eric Moyo (born 1982, Zimbabwe) was a Zimbabwean singer and the first winner of Idols East Africa a version of the Idol series. As part of the recording contract, Moyo was assured of US$25,000 in guaranteed album sales from the telecompany Celtel.
He was based in South Africa and was a member of the popular joyous celebration group.
Many gospel ministers from Joyous Celebration have extended their condolences and many are still in shock because Eric was healthy and doing fine.
In 2008 Joyous Celebration co-founder Lindelani Mkhize, told journalists he wanted Moyo to join the gospel ensemble in addition to Mkhululi Bhebhe who has been in their books for the past few years.
Ironically Bhebhe was the runner-up to Moyo at the Idols East Africa 2008.
Southern Eye Lifestyle on Moyo down. He initially appeared reluctant to discuss the issues saying it was premature to talk about the proposed deal in the media.
“It’s too early for me to comment, but as soon as things shape up I will get back to you,” he said in a brief telephone interview. Pushed further Moyo hinted he first wanted to have a face-to-face discussion with the Joyous Celebration founder.
“I want to first sit down with Mkhize to discuss the contract before letting people know,” he said.
