BENGALURU: Turning on the ignition key while her car was parked in reverse mode and without completely occupying the driver’s seat turned fatal for a woman in Sadashivanagar on Wednesday: The 48-year-old was crushed between the vehicle’s door and a tree.
Passersby found Nandini Rao, a homemaker and wife of software engineer Rajesh T, unconscious.
She was rushed to Columbia Asia Hospital in Yeshwantpur, but was declared brought dead, a police officer said.
The incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed by her neighbour near New BEL Road, 4th Cross.
“The Honda City car was parked outside her residence. It could have been in reverse gear and the handbrake may not have been on. The woman opened the door and started the engine before being seated. The car started reversing with the driver seat’s door left ajar. As the car moved back, the door dragged the woman. The car slammed a nearby tree before coming to a halt. The woman was stuck between the mangled car door and the tree,” a police officer said. “We’ve taken up a case and further probe is under way,” Sadashivanagar traffic police said.
An autopsy was conducted at MS Ramaiah Medical College Hospital on Thursday and the body was handed over to the family, the officer added>chaosafrica
