A 20-year-old Domboshava man was arrested for beating his father to death after a dispute over money they received from the sale of land.

Samson Tigere, 75, was assaulted by his son, Casper Tigere.

He had confronted him at a business centre, where he was spending his share of the money on beer, with his friends.

Casper had spent all of his share while his father had kept his share at home.

A misunderstanding arose when Samson questioned his son about stealing his money.

A fight broke out, resulting in Casper beating up his father.

Another villager had to restrain Casper.

Samson was taken to a clinic and then to a hospital where he died before admission.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii, confirmed Casper’s arrest.

“On May 1, at around 10pm, the now deceased followed his son to Denda Business Centre where he was on a beer drinking spree.

“The now deceased questioned his visibly drunk son for stealing his money from home.

“It is believed that this did not go down well with the son and a misunderstanding arose between the two.

“Casper is alleged to have hit his father once on the lower part of the eye with a fist and he fell headlong and lost consciousness.

“Casper further kicked him all over the body several times and dragged him.

“He was restrained by another villager from further assaulting his father.

“On May 2, the now deceased was referred to Mupandira Clinic after his condition deteriorated and he could no longer speak.

“He was further referred to Makumbi District Hospital and later to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital, but died before admission,” said Insp Chazovachii.
